Dr. Rockowitz is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with Fellowship training in Joint Replacement. He has a special interest in treating joint problems of shoulders, hips and knees.
Dr. Rockowitz received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA. He received his Medical Degree from McGill University Medical School in Montreal, Canada. Dr. Rockowitz fulfilled his orthopaedic surgery residency at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, CA. Dr. Rockowitz then completed a Fellowship in Joint Replacement surgery with the renowned joint-replacement surgeon, Dr. Richard Rothman, at Pennsylvania Hospital and Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Following his fellowship, Dr. Rockowitz was recruited to establish the first orthopaedic surgery department for the Ochsner Clinic of Baton Rouge in Louisiana. Dr. Rockowitz relocated his orthopaedic practice to Phoenix, in 1989.
The Anterior Hip and Tri-Lock BPS Implant- A Better Approach?
Dr. Rockowitz was the first Arizona physician (and second in the Nation) to implant the new FDA- approved Tri-Lock BPS Hip Implant. He was also a member of the Johnson & Johnson/DePuy expert design team that devised this new implant. The implant was specifically designed to be used with the Direct Anterior Total Hip Replacement Approach as well as all traditional surgical approaches.
The Direct Anterior Approach has revolutionized Total Hip Replacement as it allows the implant to be inserted without any cutting of muscles or tendons. This results in a less painful and much faster recovery time, as well as eliminates the need for post-operative precautions.
We have had many patients who have undergone both Traditional and Anterior Total hip replacements and they all attest to the superior recovery process of the Anterior approach. Although thrilled with their Traditional (posterior/lateral) results, they were ecstatic with the ease of the Anterior recovery.
