Hello everyone Warren here, we had an awesome summer as we are winding down our annual Summer Speed Camp and what a great opportunity for many of these kids to see and workout with Olympic hopefuls. Over the years we have been privileged to work with many of these elite athletes. In fact in 2000, we had the honor of working with 12 Olympic athletes that won medals (including 6 gold medals). We had an amazing group of athletes from pole vaulting, track and field, and swimming this year. We also hosted the entire Canadian Swim Team, Coached by former Phoenix Swim Club Coach Pierre LaFontaine, for 10 days in June for dry land training. Also shout out to Denny Pursley, former Phoenix Swim Club Coach, now coaching Great Britan’s Olympic Swim Team. All of these athletes worked hard and are extremely committed to their craft.
I am constantly amazed by the Olympic Athletes that work so hard to get a chance to be part of a competition that only lasts 16 days every four years. Everyone of these athletes are truly “elite” mentally and physically.
A special mention to Tori Pena out of UCLA for qualifying and representing Ireland in Pole Vaulting. On 5 March 2011 she set Irish indoor pole vault record (4.35). Tori Pena, set a New Irish Pole Vault Record, clearing 4.52m at the San Diego Triton Invitational in the USA April 27th 2012. The record-breaking performance is also the second time this season that Pena has achieved the Olympic Qualification standard of 4.50m. Another historic fact is that Tori will be the first woman pole vaulter to represent Ireland in the Olympics. Here is a recent interview with Tori. Follow Tori as she competes starting August 4th, 2012. Good luck Tori!
